DIGEST 

Currently, Texas law establishes a minimum number of days for a school
year.  In the recodification of the Education Code, the year in the
formula that establishes the minimum days of service required by teachers
was left unchanged.  This bill corrects a recodification error in the
Education Code by changing the year of reference in the formula that
establishes the minimum number of days of service required to be served by
a teacher for a school year. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1893 corrects a recodification error in the Education
Code by changing the year of reference in the formula that establishes the
minimum number of days of service required to be served by a teacher for a
school year. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 21.401, Education Code, as follows:

Sec. 21.401.  MINIMUM SERVICE REQUIRED.  Redefines the formula for the
minimum number of days of service formula.  Redefines "R1" as equal to
FSP/ADA as determined under Section 21.402 for the 1996-1997, rather than
the 1994-1995, school year. 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1997.

SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
