SRC-MAX S.B. 1952 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1952 By: Truan Intergovernmental Relations 5-13-97 As Filed DIGEST Currently, there are approximately 17 courts in this state that exercise "statutory probate court jurisdiction" but are not all necessarily designed as such. There have been recent efforts to limit this jurisdiction. This bill would ensure that these courts continue to exercise such jurisdiction. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1952 sets forth provisions regarding the jurisdiction of certain statutory county courts. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 5, Texas Probate Code, by adding Subsection (g), to provide that a statutory county court created under Chapter 25, Government Code, that has the jurisdiction of a statutory probate court on August 31, 1997, retains that jurisdiction after that date. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1997. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
