SRC-TNM S.C.R. 42 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.C.R. 42 By: Truan Education 4-11-97 As Filed DIGEST Currently, business programs at higher education institutions focus on preparing students for employment in large companies. However, the largest spur to job growth in Texas and the nation is coming from small and medium-sized businesses. S.C.R. 42 proposes that the legislature consider encouraging the schools of business at state-supported universities to expand their curricula to prepare students to succeed in small and medium-sized business. PURPOSE As proposed, S.C.R. 42 submits the following resolution: To encourage all public and private higher education institutions throughout the state that offer business programs to increase the number of applied courses related to small and medium-sized businesses in an international business environment. To consider whether the course offerings that constitute an institution's business program meet the present and future needs of the state and the region in which the institution is located in light of the need to encourage and assist small and medium-sized business development and to prepare the business men and women entering those businesses.
