SRC-JRN S.C.R. 81 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.C.R. 81 By: Gallegos Administration 5-5-97 As Filed DIGEST In the early 1900s, Elias Ramirez settled in Houston and made contributions to the heritage of many Mexican-American citizens and newly arrived Mexican immigrants. Mr. Ramirez established the Sociedad Mutualista Benito Juarez to assist in achieving goals and maintaining the heritage of the Mexican American community. Mr. Ramirez's death in 1960 brought a great loss to his community, but his many achievements have left an ongoing legacy of which many can be proud. PURPOSE As proposed, S.C.R. 81 submits the following resolution: That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby name the state building at 5425 Polk Avenue in Houston the Elias Ramirez Building. That the secretary of state forward an official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the General Services Commission.
