SRC-JRN S.C.R. 95 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.C.R. 95 By: Bivins Education 5-17-97 As Filed DIGEST In the 74th Legislature, the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund (TIF) was created to establish a world class education technology infrastructure for Texas schools. This fund makes grants of $1.5 billion over the next decade available to schools for the acquisition and use of information technology in the Texas education system. The creation of TIF assists in integrating information technology and services into the educational system. PURPOSE As proposed, S.C.R. 95 submits the following resolution: That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas authorize the creation of the Texas Education Telecommunications Coordinating Committee (advisory committee); and That the advisory committee be charged with the responsibility of developing goals for the advancement, acquisition, and use of telecommunications technology in the state education system, coordinating education technology efforts among state agencies, encouraging maximum use of Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund by rewarding collaborative efforts through the grant process, and making, by September 1, 1998, any legislative recommendations for the regular session of the 76th Legislature; and That the committee membership be composed of members from particular organizations.
