                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to the application of the law of another state in an

 1-3     action under the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act.

 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 159.604(a), Family Code, is amended to

 1-6     read as follows:

 1-7           (a)  The law of the issuing state governs the nature, extent,

 1-8     amount, and duration of current payments and other obligations of

 1-9     support and the payment of arrearages under the order only if a

1-10     party provides the court having jurisdiction over an action in this

1-11     state a [certified] copy of the applicable law of the state.

1-12     Otherwise, the law of this state applies.

1-13           SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies to an

1-14     action under the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act:

1-15                 (1)  pending on the effective date of this Act; or

1-16                 (2)  filed on or after the effective date of this Act.

1-17           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-18     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-19     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-20     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-21     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-22     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-23     passage, and it is so enacted.
