                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to a late application by certain charitable organizations

 1-3     for an exemption from ad valorem taxation.

 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 11.435(e), Tax Code, is amended to read

 1-6     as follows:

 1-7           (e)  An application may not be filed under this section after

 1-8     December 31, 1997 [1991].

 1-9           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-10     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-11     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-12     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-13     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-14     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-15     passage, and it is so enacted.

 2-1                          COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1

 2-2           Amend H.B. No. 197 by inserting between the enacting clause

 2-3     and Section 1 of the bill the following section and renumbering the

 2-4     subsequent sections appropriately:

 2-5           SECTION 3.  Section 11.433, Tax Code, is amended by adding

 2-6     Subsection (e) to read as follows:

 2-7           (e)  An application may not be filed under this section after

 2-8     December 31, 1997.
