                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to the offense of perjury under Title 15, Election Code.

 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-4           SECTION 1.  Section 254.036(b), Election Code, is amended to

 1-5     read as follows:

 1-6           (b)  Each report filed under this chapter must be accompanied

 1-7     by an affidavit executed by the person required to file the report.

 1-8     The affidavit must contain the statement:  "I swear, or affirm,

 1-9     under penalty of perjury, that the accompanying report is true and

1-10     correct and includes all information required to be reported by me

1-11     under Title 15, Election Code."

1-12           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.

1-13           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-14     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-15     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-16     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-17     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
