By Nixon H.B. No. 286 75R441 CAS-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the location of certain events sanctioned or conducted 1-3 by the University Interscholastic League. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 33.083, Education Code, is amended by 1-6 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: 1-7 (e) The University Interscholastic League shall establish a 1-8 procedure that allows municipalities to submit competitive bids to 1-9 host a statewide event sanctioned or conducted by the league. The 1-10 league must provide a municipality with established criteria by 1-11 which the league will evaluate a bid. The league shall award a 1-12 contract to host the event to the municipality whose bid best meets 1-13 the league's criteria. 1-14 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 1-15 SECTION 3. Section 33.083(e), Education Code, as added by 1-16 this Act, does not apply to an event sanctioned or conducted by the 1-17 University Interscholastic League if the location of the event is 1-18 controlled by a contract entered into before the effective date of 1-19 this Act. 1-20 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the 1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-24 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
