1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to the service areas of certain public junior colleges.
1-9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-10 SECTION 1. Sections 130.166 and 130.202, Education Code, are
1-11 amended to read as follows:
1-12 Sec. 130.166. Austin Community College District Service
1-13 Area. The service area of the Austin Community College District
1-14 includes the territory within:
1-15 (1) Travis, Bastrop, Hays, Gillespie, Caldwell, and
1-16 Blanco counties;
1-17 (2) the Marble Falls Independent School District,
1-18 located in Burnet County; and
1-19 (3) Williamson County, except the territory within the
1-20 Florence, Granger, Hutto, Taylor, and Thrall [Granger] independent
1-21 school districts.
1-22 Sec. 130.202. TEMPLE JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT SERVICE AREA.
1-23 The service area of the Temple Junior College District includes the
1-24 territory within:
1-25 (1) the Temple Independent School District;
1-26 (2) the municipality of Temple;
1-27 (3) the Academy, Bartlett, Belton, Holland, Rogers,
1-28 Troy, and Salado independent school districts located in Bell
1-29 County;
1-30 (4) the Buckholts, Cameron, and Thorndale independent
1-31 school districts located in Milam County;
1-32 (5) the Granger, Hutto, [and] Taylor, and Thrall
1-33 independent school districts located in Williamson County;
1-34 (6) the part of the Rosebud-Lott Independent School
1-35 District that is located in Milam County; and
1-36 (7) the part of the Bartlett Independent School
1-37 District that is located in Milam County.
1-38 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies
1-39 beginning with the 1997 fall semester, except that during the
1-40 1997-1998 academic year a junior college district whose service
1-41 area is changed by this Act may continue to treat an area removed
1-42 by this Act from the district's service area as if the area were
1-43 still in the district's service area as necessary to avoid an
1-44 unreasonable interruption of junior college services in the area.
1-45 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-46 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-47 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-48 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-49 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-50 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-51 passage, and it is so enacted.
