                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to permitting certain law enforcement authorities to

 1-3     receive reduced airfare while engaged in certain official business.

 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-5           SECTION 1.  The heading to Section 2171.055, Government Code,

 1-6     is amended to read as follows:

 1-7           Sec. 2171.055.  PARTICIPATION [BY STATE AGENCIES] IN TRAVEL

 1-8     SERVICES CONTRACTS.

 1-9           SECTION 2.  Section 2171.055, Government Code, is amended by

1-10     adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:

1-11           (e)  A county sheriff or deputy sheriff or an adult or

1-12     juvenile probation officer who is engaged in law enforcement action

1-13     on behalf of the state may participate in the commission's

1-14     contracts for travel services for the purpose of obtaining reduced

1-15     airline fares.  The commission shall adopt rules and make or amend

1-16     contracts as necessary to administer this subsection.

1-17           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-18     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-19     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-20     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-21     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-22     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-23     passage, and it is so enacted.
