1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the expansion of the areas where proceeds of the branch 1-3 campus maintenance tax may be used. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 130.087(k), Education Code, is amended to 1-6 read as follows: 1-7 (k) The proceeds of the junior college district branch 1-8 campus maintenance tax may be used to operate and maintain a junior 1-9 college district branch campus and to support its programs and 1-10 services only in: 1-11 (1) the area of the jurisdiction levying the junior 1-12 college district branch campus maintenance tax; or 1-13 (2) the area of a jurisdiction contiguous to the 1-14 jurisdiction levying the tax that also levies a junior college 1-15 district branch campus maintenance tax to operate, maintain, and 1-16 support the same junior college district branch campus. 1-17 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 1-18 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-19 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-20 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-21 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-22 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I certify that H.B.
