1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to certain categories of leave for state employees. 1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Chapter 661, Government Code, is amended by 1-5 adding Subchapter F to read as follows: 1-6 SUBCHAPTER F. OTHER CATEGORIES OF LEAVE FOR STATE EMPLOYEES 1-7 Sec. 661.151. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE LEAVE. (a) This 1-8 section applies to an employee who is a parent of a child who is a 1-9 student attending a grade from prekindergarten through 12th grade. 1-10 (b) An employee may use up to eight hours of sick leave each 1-11 calendar year to attend parent-teacher conference sessions for the 1-12 employee's children. 1-13 (c) An employee shall give reasonable advance notice of the 1-14 employee's intention to use the sick leave to attend a 1-15 parent-teacher conference. 1-16 (d) In this section: 1-17 (1) "Employee" has the meaning assigned by Section 1-18 661.001. 1-19 (2) "Parent" means a person standing in parental 1-20 relation. 1-21 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 1-22 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-1 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-2 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I certify that H.B.
