Chapter 661, Government Code, is amended by 1-11 adding Subchapter F to read as follows: 1-12 SUBCHAPTER F. OTHER CATEGORIES OF LEAVE FOR STATE EMPLOYEES 1-13 Sec. 661.151. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE LEAVE. (a) This 1-14 section applies to an employee who is a parent of a child who is a 1-15 student attending a grade from prekindergarten through 12th grade. 1-16 (b) An employee may use up to eight hours of sick leave each 1-17 calendar year to attend parent-teacher conference sessions for the 1-18 employee's children. 1-19 (c) An employee shall give reasonable advance notice of the 1-20 employee's intention to use the sick leave to attend a 1-21 parent-teacher conference. 1-22 (d) In this section: 1-23 (1) "Employee" has the meaning assigned by Section 1-24 661.001. 1-25 (2) "Parent" means a person standing in parental 1-26 relation. 1-27 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 1-28 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-29 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-30 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-31 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-32 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-33 * * * * *
