No. 1205 75R4345 ESH-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the accumulation of sick leave by firefighters and 1-3 police officers in certain municipalities. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 143.045(a), Local Government Code, is 1-6 amended to read as follows: 1-7 (a) A permanent or temporary fire fighter or police officer 1-8 is allowed sick leave with pay accumulated at the rate of: 1-9 (1) 1-1/4 full working days for each full month 1-10 employed in a calendar year, so as to total 15 working days to a 1-11 person's credit each 12 months, if the person has been employed by 1-12 the municipality as a fire fighter or police officer for less than 1-13 15 years; 1-14 (2) 1-1/3 full working days for each full month 1-15 employed in a calendar year, so as to total 16 working days to a 1-16 person's credit each 12 months, if the person has been employed by 1-17 the municipality as a fire fighter or police officer for at least 1-18 15 years but less than 20 years; 1-19 (3) 1-5/12 full working days for each full month 1-20 employed in a calendar year, so as to total 17 working days to a 1-21 person's credit each 12 months, if the person has been employed by 1-22 the municipality as a fire fighter or police officer for at least 1-23 20 years but less than 25 years; or 1-24 (4) 1-1/2 full working days for each full month 2-1 employed in a calendar year, so as to total 18 working days to a 2-2 person's credit each 12 months, if the person has been employed by 2-3 the municipality as a fire fighter or police officer for at least 2-4 25 years. 2-5 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 2-6 SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act to Section 2-7 143.045(a), Local Government Code, apply only to the accrual of 2-8 sick leave after August 31, 1997. 2-9 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the 2-10 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-11 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-12 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-13 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
