                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1 AN ACT

1-2 relating to civil service exemption for certain county employees.

1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-4 SECTION 1. Section 158.013, Local Government Code, is

1-5 amended to read as follows:

1-6 (a) A person who on August 30, 1971, was an employee of an

1-7 eligible county under this subchapter may not be required to take a

1-8 competitive examination or perform any other act to maintain the

1-9 position held on that date.

1-10 (b) This subchapter does not apply to:

1-11 (1) assistant district attorneys, investigators, or

1-12 other employees of a district or criminal district attorney, except

1-13     as provided by Section 158.007;

1-14 (2) the official shorthand reporter of a court; or

1-15 (3) an elected or appointed officer under the

1-16 constitution; or

1-17 (4) a deputy constable.

1-18 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the

1-19 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-20 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-21 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-22 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-23 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-24 passage, and it is so enacted.
