A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to exemptions from certain county civil service systems.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 158.013(b), Local Government Code, is
1-5 amended to read as follows:
1-6 (b) This subchapter does not apply to:
1-7 (1) assistant district attorneys, investigators, or
1-8 other employees of a district or criminal district attorney, except
1-9 as provided by Section 158.007;
1-10 (2) the official shorthand reporter of a court; [or]
1-11 (3) an elected or appointed officer under the
1-12 constitution; or
1-13 (4) a deputy constable.
1-14 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. A
1-15 deputy constable is not covered after that date by a civil service
1-16 system created under Subchapter A, Chapter 158, Local Government
1-17 Code.
1-18 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-19 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-20 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-21 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-22 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
