                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to the designation of a portion of State Highway 35 as the

 1-3     Stephen F. Austin Memorial Highway.

 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code,

 1-6     is amended by adding Section 225.034 to read as follows:

 1-7           Sec. 225.034.  STEPHEN F. AUSTIN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.

 1-8     (a)  State Highway 35 in Matagorda, Brazoria, and Harris counties

 1-9     is designated as the Stephen F. Austin Memorial Highway.

1-10           (b)  The department shall design and construct memorial

1-11     markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the

1-12     Stephen F. Austin Memorial Highway, and any other appropriate

1-13     information.

1-14           (c)  The department shall erect a marker at each end of the

1-15     highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.

1-16           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-17     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-18     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-19     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-20     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-21     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-22     passage, and it is so enacted.

1-24     Amend HB 1478 as follows:

 2-1           Page 1, line 8, delete the phrase Matagorda, Brazoria, and

 2-2     Harris and substitute Matagorda and Brazoria.
