No. 1673 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House April 21, 1997; 1-3 April 22, 1997, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Finance; May 9, 1997, reported favorably by the following vote: 1-5 Yeas 11, Nays 0; May 9, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to payment of per diem to members of the Texas State 1-9 Library and Archives Commission. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Section 441.001(n), Government Code, is amended 1-12 to read as follows: 1-13 (n) A member of the commission may not receive compensation 1-14 for services as a member but is entitled to the per diem provided 1-15 by the General Appropriations Act for attending a meeting of the 1-16 commission. A member is also entitled to reimbursement for actual 1-17 expenses reasonably incurred in connection with the performance of 1-18 those services, subject to any applicable limitation on 1-19 reimbursement provided by the General Appropriations Act. 1-20 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-24 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-25 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-26 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-27 * * * * *
