1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the Real Estate Research Center.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 86.52(e), Education Code, is amended to
1-5 read as follows:
1-6 (e) The committee shall elect a presiding officer and an
1-7 assistant presiding officer [chairman] from its membership, and
1-8 each officer [he] shall serve for a [an annual] term of one year.
1-9 SECTION 2. (a) This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.
1-10 (b) Not later than September 15, 1997, the Real Estate
1-11 Research Advisory Committee shall meet and elect an assistant
1-12 presiding officer of the committee. The committee may provide that
1-13 the initial term of the assistant presiding officer expires after
1-14 one year or on the next date that the committee selects a presiding
1-15 officer.
1-16 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
