 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-7                                   AN ACT

 1-8     relating to the Real Estate Research Center.

 1-9           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-10           SECTION 1.  Section 86.52(e), Education Code, is amended to

1-11     read as follows:

1-12           (e)  The committee shall elect a presiding officer and an

1-13     assistant presiding officer [chairman] from its membership, and

1-14     each officer [he] shall serve for a [an annual] term of one year.

1-15           SECTION 2.  (a)  This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.

1-16           (b)  Not later than September 15, 1997, the Real Estate

1-17     Research Advisory Committee shall meet and elect an assistant

1-18     presiding officer of the committee. The committee may provide that

1-19     the initial term of the assistant presiding officer expires after

1-20     one year or on the next date that the committee selects a presiding

1-21     officer.

1-22           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-23     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-24     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-25     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-26     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
