 1-6     COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1                               By:  Carona

 1-7     Amend H.B. No. 1836, by adding a new SECTION 1 to read as follows

 1-8     and renumbering all succeeding sections accordingly:

 1-9           SECTION 1.  Section 755.025, Health and Safety Code, is

1-10     amended by adding a new subsection (f) to read as follows and

1-11     relettering all succeeding subsections accordingly:

1-12           (f)  The certificate inspection of all gas fired boilers

1-13     shall include inspection of the gas regulator and/or pressure

1-14     reducing valve servicing the boiler to verify proper venting to a

1-15     safe point of discharge.

1-16                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

1-17                                   AN ACT

1-18     relating to the interval between internal inspections of certain

1-19     boilers.

1-20           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-21                                  ARTICLE 1

1-22           SECTION 1.01.  Section 755.026(a), Health and Safety Code, is

1-23     amended to read as follows:

1-24           (a)  With the approval of the commissioner and the inspection

1-25     agency that has jurisdiction for the power [that] boiler, the

1-26     interval between internal inspections [of a boiler] may be extended

1-27     to a period not exceeding a total of 48 [24] months [for power

1-28     boilers].  For other unfired steam boilers, the inspection interval

1-29     may be extended to the next scheduled downtime of the [that]

1-30     boiler, but not exceeding a total of 84 [60] months.

1-31                                  ARTICLE 2

1-32           SECTION 2.01.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.

1-33           SECTION 2.02.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-34     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-35     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-36     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-37     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
