                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1 AN ACT

1-2 relating to the continuing education requirements for a medical

 1-3 radiologic technologist.

1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-5 SECTION 1. Section 2.05(d), Medical Radiologic Technologist

1-6 Certification Act (Article 4512m, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes),

1-7 is amended to read as follows:

1-8 (d) The Texas Board of Health may establish guidelines,

1-9 which may include requirements for continuing education for medical

1-10 radiologic technologists, and the Texas Board of Health may prepare

1-11 and conduct an examination for applicants for a certificate. Rules

1-12 adopted under this subsection providing requirements for continuing

1-13 education shall provide less stringent requirements for a medical

1-14 radiologic technologist who restricts the person's practice to

1-15 radiologic procedures that are not considered to be dangerous or

1-16 hazardous.

1-17 SECTION 2. (a) This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.

1-18 (b) The Texas Board of Health shall adopt rules under

1-19 Section 2.05(d), Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification Act

1-20 (Article 4512m, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), as amended by this

1-21 Act, not later than January 1, 1998. The board is not required to

1-22 adopt rules under this subsection if the board does not require

1-23 continuing education for medical radiologic technologists.

1-24 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the

2-1 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

2-2 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

2-3 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

2-4 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
