 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-7                                   AN ACT

 1-8     relating to temporary vehicle registration.

 1-9           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-10           SECTION 1.  Section 502.354, Transportation Code, is amended

1-11     by amending Subsection (e) and adding Subsection (i) to read as

1-12     follows:

1-13           (e)  A person may obtain a permit under this section by:

1-14                 (1)  applying on a form provided by the department to:

1-15                       (A)  the county assessor-collector of the county

1-16     in which the vehicle will first be operated on a public highway; or

1-17                       (B)  the department in Austin or at one of the

1-18     department's vehicle title and registration regional offices; [and]

1-19                 (2)  paying a fee, in cash or by postal money order or

1-20     certified check, of:

1-21                       (A)  $5 for a one-trip permit; or

1-22                       (B)  $25 for each 30-day period; and

1-23                 (3)  furnishing evidence of financial responsibility

1-24     for the vehicle in a form listed under Section 502.153(c).

1-25           (i)  The department may:

1-26                 (1)  adopt rules to administer this section; and

1-27                 (2)  prescribe an application for a permit and other

1-28     forms under this section.

1-29           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-30     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-31     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-32     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-33     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-34     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-35     passage, and it is so enacted.
