                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to school district child-care facilities for children of

 1-3     district employees.

 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is

 1-6     amended by adding Section 22.006 to read as follows:

 1-7           Sec. 22.006.  CHILD-CARE FACILITIES.  (a)  A school district

 1-8     shall inform each district employee of the employee's opportunity

 1-9     to use a district-operated child-care facility, whether on or off

1-10     of school property, for the employee's children.

1-11           (b)  A school district may operate a child-care facility for

1-12     district employees, but is not required to provide child care at no

1-13     charge to the employee.

1-14           (c)  A school district child-care facility that serves

1-15     district students or their children may also serve children of

1-16     district employees.

1-17           SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 1997-1998

1-18     school year.

1-19           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-20     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-21     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-22     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-23     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-24     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

 2-1     passage, and it is so enacted.
