1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to fees for correspondence courses for certain veterans 1-3 and the children of certain veterans. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 54.545(c), Education Code, is amended to 1-6 read as follows: 1-7 (c) Subchapters B and D do not apply to a fee charged under 1-8 this section, except to a fee for a correspondence course taken by 1-9 a student who would qualify for an exemption from tuition under 1-10 Section 54.203 if the correspondence course applies towards the 1-11 student's degree plan. The governing board of an institution of 1-12 higher education may grant an exemption provided by Section 54.203 1-13 for continuing education courses. 1-14 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 1-15 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-16 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-17 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-18 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-19 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I certify that H.B.
