                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to the list of former and retired judges subject to

 1-3     assignment.

 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 74.055(d), Government Code, is amended to

 1-6     read as follows:

 1-7           (d)  A former district judge who has served as judge of more

 1-8     than one district court or has served as a judge for at least 12

 1-9     months in a district, statutory probate, statutory county, or

1-10     appellate court and has served at least 72 months as a member of

1-11     the Texas Legislature is not required to meet the 48 months of

1-12     service requirement in Subsection (c)(1) to be eligible to be named

1-13     on the list.

1-14           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-15     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-16     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-17     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-18     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
