No. 2335 75R8150 SKB-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the continuation of certain crime control and 1-3 prevention districts. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 8.01, Crime Control and Prevention 1-6 District Act (Article 2370c-4, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is 1-7 amended by adding Subsections (d) and (e) to read as follows: 1-8 (d) In a county with a population of one million or more, 1-9 the board or commissioners court may specify the number of years 1-10 for which the district should be continued. The governing body of 1-11 a municipality that creates a district under Section 1.05A of this 1-12 Act may specify the number of years for which the district should 1-13 be continued. For a continuation referendum under this subsection, 1-14 the ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the 1-15 proposition: "Whether the ______ Crime Control and Prevention 1-16 District should be continued for _____ years and the crime control 1-17 and prevention district sales and use tax should be continued for 1-18 _____ years." 1-19 (e) In a county with a population of one million or more, 1-20 the board or commissioners court may order a continuation 1-21 referendum without a limit on the number of years for which the 1-22 district should be continued. The governing body of a municipality 1-23 that creates a district under Section 1.05A of this Act may order a 1-24 continuation referendum without a limit on the number of years for 2-1 which the district should be continued. For a continuation 2-2 referendum under this subsection, the ballot shall be printed to 2-3 permit voting for or against the proposition: "Whether the _____ 2-4 Crime Control and Prevention District should be continued and the 2-5 crime control and prevention district sales and use tax should be 2-6 continued." 2-7 SECTION 2. Section 10.01, Crime Control and Prevention 2-8 District Act (Article 2370c-4, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is 2-9 amended by adding Subsections (c) and (d) to read as follows: 2-10 (c) Subsection (b) of this section does not apply to a 2-11 district that is continued under Section 8.01(d) of this Act, and 2-12 that district is dissolved on the expiration of the period for 2-13 which it was continued. 2-14 (d) Subsection (b) of this section does not apply to a 2-15 district that is continued under Section 8.01(e) of this Act. 2-16 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 2-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 2-21 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 2-22 passage, and it is so enacted.
