                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to the power of the board of regents of The Texas A&M

 1-3     University System to designate Texas A&M University at Galveston as

 1-4     a branch campus of Texas A&M University.

 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-6           SECTION 1.  Section 87.201, Education Code, is amended by

 1-7     adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:

 1-8           (c)  The board of regents of The Texas A&M University System

 1-9     may designate Texas A&M University at Galveston as a branch campus

1-10     of Texas A&M University.  A designation under this subsection may

1-11     not change the role or mission of Texas A&M University at Galveston

1-12     as described in this subchapter.  A designation under this

1-13     subsection is effective when the board publishes notice of the

1-14     designation in the Texas Register.

1-15           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-16     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-17     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-18     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-19     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-20     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-21     passage, and it is so enacted.
