1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 49, Code of Criminal
1-6 Procedure, is amended by adding Article 49.041 to read as follows:
1-7 Art. 49.041. REOPENING AN INQUEST. A justice of the peace
1-8 may reopen an inquest if, based on information provided by a

1-12 death.
1-13 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.
1-14 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies to an

1-16 the effective date of this Act.
1-17 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-18 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-21 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
