No. 3063 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 8, 1997; 1-3 May 9, 1997, read first time and referred to Committee on State 1-4 Affairs; May 18, 1997, reported favorably by the following vote: 1-5 Yeas 12, Nays 0; May 18, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the registration of certain golf carts. 1-9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-10 SECTION 1. Section 502.284, Transportation Code, is amended 1-11 to read as follows: 1-12 Sec. 502.284. GOLF CARTS. (a) An owner of a golf cart 1-13 driven to and from a golf course is not required to register the 1-14 golf cart. 1-15 (b) If an owner of a golf cart resides on real property that 1-16 is owned or under the control of the United States Corps of 1-17 Engineers and is required by that agency to register the owner's 1-18 golf cart under this chapter, the fee for registering the golf cart 1-19 is $10. This subsection applies only to an owner of a golf cart 1-20 who resides in a county that borders another state and has a 1-21 population of more than 95,000 but less than 100,000. 1-22 (c) Subsection (b) does not authorize the operation of a 1-23 golf cart on a public road where otherwise prohibited by law. 1-24 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-25 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-26 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-27 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-28 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-29 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-30 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-31 * * * * *
