                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to authorizing a domestic relations office to obtain

 1-3     certain information to establish, modify, or enforce a child

 1-4     support order.

 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-6           SECTION 1.  Chapter 203, Family Code, is amended by adding

 1-7     Section 203.008 to read as follows:

 1-8           Sec. 203.008.  INFORMATION TO ASSIST IN LOCATION OF PERSONS

 1-9     OR PROPERTY.  (a)  If necessary to establish, modify, or enforce a

1-10     child support order, a domestic relations office may obtain from

1-11     any person information relating to another person's identity,

1-12     location, employment, compensation, benefits, income, property

1-13     holdings, or other assets.

1-14           (b)  A person receiving a request for information under

1-15     Subsection (a) shall:

1-16                 (1)  provide the information requested in the most

1-17     efficient manner available, including using electronic transfer;

1-18     and

1-19                 (2)  guarantee the privacy and security of the

1-20     information.

1-21           (c)  A person that discloses information under this section

1-22     in response to a request from a domestic relations office may not

1-23     be held liable for damages that result from the disclosure of the

1-24     information.

 2-1           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.

 2-2           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

 2-3     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

 2-4     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

 2-5     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

 2-6     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
