                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to certain qualifications for dental hygienists.

 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-4           SECTION 1.  Section 2, Chapter 475, Acts of the 52nd

 1-5     Legislature, Regular Session, 1951 (Article 4551e, Vernon's Texas

 1-6     Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:

 1-7           Sec. 2.  QUALIFICATIONS.  A dental hygienist shall be not

 1-8     less than eighteen (18) years of age and a graduate of an

 1-9     accredited high school or hold a certificate of high school

1-10     equivalency (GED) and be a graduate of a recognized and accredited

1-11     school or college of dentistry or dental hygiene approved by the

1-12     Texas State Board of Dental Examiners in which the course of

1-13     instruction shall be the equivalent of not less than two (2) terms

1-14     of eight (8) months each and who shall have thereafter passed the

1-15     [an] examination under Section 5 of this Act [given by and before

1-16     the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners] on subjects pertaining

1-17     to dental hygiene, and who shall have complied with all of the

1-18     provisions of this Act and the rules and regulations promulgated by

1-19     the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

1-20           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-21     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-22     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-23     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-24     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

 2-1     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

 2-2     passage, and it is so enacted.
