No. 3233 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 5, 1997; 1-3 May 6, 1997, read first time and referred to Committee on Health 1-4 and Human Services; May 14, 1997, reported favorably by the 1-5 following vote: Yeas 10, Nays 0; May 14, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the regulation and training of code enforcement 1-9 officers. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Section 6(a), Chapter 796, Acts of the 72nd 1-12 Legislature, Regular Session, 1991 (Article 4447bb, Vernon's Texas 1-13 Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows: 1-14 (a) To receive a certificate of registration under this Act, 1-15 an applicant must: 1-16 (1) meet the requirements prescribed by this Act and 1-17 by board rule; 1-18 (2) have at least one year of experience in the field 1-19 of code enforcement; 1-20 (3) pass the examination conducted by the department 1-21 or the department's designee; and 1-22 (4) pay the initial application, registration, and 1-23 examination fees. 1-24 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-25 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-26 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-27 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-28 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-29 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-30 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-31 * * * * *
