                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to the powers of the White River Municipal Water District.

 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-4           SECTION 1.  Section 9, Chapter 221, Acts of the 55th

 1-5     Legislature, Regular Session, 1957, is amended to read as follows:

 1-6           Sec. 9.  The District is empowered to acquire land within or

 1-7     without the boundaries of the District but not outside any County

 1-8     in which the District is located, and to construct, lease or

 1-9     otherwise acquire all works, plants and other facilities necessary

1-10     or useful for the purpose of diverting, further impounding or

1-11     storing water, processing such water and transporting it to Cities

1-12     and others for municipal, domestic, industrial and mining purposes.

1-13     Subject to the terms of any deed of trust issued by the District,

1-14     the District may sell, trade or otherwise dispose of any real or

1-15     personal property deemed by the Board of Directors not to be needed

1-16     for District purposes.  The District may [is not authorized to]

1-17     develop or otherwise acquire underground sources of water.

1-18           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-19     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-20     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-21     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-22     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-23     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-24     passage, and it is so enacted.
