 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-7                                   AN ACT

 1-8     relating to the terms of the directors of the Seis Lagos Utility

 1-9     District.

1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-11           SECTION 1.  Section 5(e), Chapter 527, Acts of the 71st

1-12     Legislature, Regular Session, 1989, is amended to read as follows:

1-13           (e)  The district shall hold an election in the district on

1-14     the first Saturday in May of each even-numbered year to elect the

1-15     appropriate number of directors to the board.  Directors serve

1-16     staggered four-year [two-year] terms [with the terms of two

1-17     directors expiring each odd-numbered year and the terms of three

1-18     directors expiring each even-numbered year].  Directors serve until

1-19     their successors are elected and have qualified.

1-20           SECTION 2.  (a)  The terms of the two directors elected at

1-21     the May 1995 election expire on the first Saturday in May 1998 as

1-22     provided by Section 50(b), Chapter 715, Acts of the 74th

1-23     Legislature, Regular Session, 1995.

1-24           (b)  The terms of the three directors elected in May 1996

1-25     expire on the first Saturday in May 2000 as provided by Section

1-26     49.103, Water Code.

1-27           (c)  The directors elected at the election held on the first

1-28     Saturday in May 1998 and in subsequent even-numbered years serve

1-29     four-year terms.

1-30           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-31     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-32     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-33     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-34     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-35     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-36     passage, and it is so enacted.
