HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The city of Jefferson in Marion County is one of the 1-2 Lone Star State's great treasures; nestled on the banks of Big 1-3 Cypress Creek, Jefferson's strong ties to Texas tradition have made 1-4 it a haven for visitors in search of a memorable getaway; and 1-5 WHEREAS, One of the oldest towns in Texas, its rich and 1-6 varied history is reflected in the 66 buildings found within the 1-7 city limits that have been listed in the National Register of 1-8 Historic Places, and the annual Pilgrimage Home Tours and 1-9 Candlelight Tour of Homes are nationally known to connoisseurs of 1-10 architectural history; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Residents of Jefferson winningly combine great pride 1-12 in the region's colorful past with warm hometown friendliness, and 1-13 these two typically Texan traits have found happy expression in the 1-14 institution known as the bed and breakfast; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The quaint charm and gracious hospitality 1-16 exemplified by bed and breakfast accommodations have made these 1-17 establishments increasingly popular among discriminating travelers 1-18 in recent years, and in 1980 Jefferson's Pride House became the 1-19 first such lodging in Texas; built in 1889, it has since been 1-20 designated a Texas Historical Landmark; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The Pride House was but the first of many equally 1-22 successful enterprises, and, as befits one of the state's most 1-23 popular tourist destinations, Jefferson now boasts more bed and 1-24 breakfasts per capita than any other city in Texas; now, therefore, 2-1 be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-3 hereby officially recognize the city of Jefferson in Marion County 2-4 as the Bed and Breakfast Capital of Texas.
