By Kubiak H.C.R. No. 6 75R3277 SAJ-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable Henry G. "Bud" Lehman 1-2 on December 16, 1996, at the age of 85, has brought a great loss to 1-3 the many friends and relatives of this distinguished Giddings 1-4 resident and former dean of the Texas House of Representatives; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Lehman first won election to the house in 1937; 1-6 during his tenure, he was highly regarded for his integrity, 1-7 professionalism, and dedication, and he went on to serve his fellow 1-8 Texans for 20 years as a state representative; and 1-9 WHEREAS, In 1952 Mr. Lehman set a record when, as the member 1-10 who had then amassed the longest consecutive tenure in that 1-11 chamber, he became the youngest dean ever named in the history of 1-12 the Texas House of Representatives; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Throughout the years, he worked diligently to 1-14 improve the rural roads of our state and sponsored important 1-15 legislation creating the farm-to-market road network; in 1-16 recognition of his vast contributions, a portion of U.S. Highway 1-17 290 was renamed in his honor; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In addition to his outstanding career as a 1-19 statesman, Mr. Lehman was also a licensed mortician who managed his 1-20 family's business and embarked on a new venture in the oil industry 1-21 at the close of his political career, contributing greatly to 1-22 Giddings' economic prosperity; and 1-23 WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman continued to work for the 1-24 betterment of his community through his active involvement in 2-1 numerous local organizations and as a director of the Giddings 2-2 Chamber of Commerce; an accomplished athlete during his youth, he 2-3 shared his love of sports with countless others as the longtime 2-4 sponsor of Henry's Hogs softball team; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Henry G. "Bud" Lehman was a man of great vision who 2-6 left an indelible mark on his community and state; though he is 2-7 gone from us now, his spirit will surely live on in the many 2-8 accomplishments he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-10 hereby honor the memory of former State Representative Henry G. 2-11 "Bud" Lehman and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his 2-12 family: to his niece, Nancy Kay; to his nephew, John Fleet III; to 2-13 his brother-in-law, Jake Jacobsen; and to all the relatives and 2-14 many friends of this eminent gentleman; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-17 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-18 memory of the Honorable Henry G. "Bud" Lehman.
