HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Dale Curry of Odessa on December
1-2 8, 1996, at the age of 78, has brought a great loss to the many
1-3 friends and relatives of this distinguished physician; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A World War II veteran, Dr. Curry received his
1-5 undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University before earning
1-6 his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in 1952, and he
1-7 completed his internship and residency at Wesley Hospital in
1-8 Oklahoma City; and
1-9 WHEREAS, He began his private practice in Enid, Oklahoma, in
1-10 1954 and three years later moved to Odessa, where he enjoyed a
1-11 successful career in general medicine until his retirement in 1990;
1-12 he further served his many friends and neighbors in that community
1-13 as chief of staff at Medical Center Hospital; and
1-14 WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Curry will be remembered as an
1-15 effective advocate for girls' sports programs, and he was
1-16 instrumental in the Ector County Independent School District's
1-17 decision to hire a trainer specifically for high school girls'
1-18 athletics; and
1-19 WHEREAS, An ardent fan of track and field events, he
1-20 graciously served as the team doctor at a number of area high
1-21 schools, and his exceptional contributions throughout the years
1-22 earned him much renown; he was honored by the West Texas Relays in
1-23 1995 for 37 years of outstanding service as the physician for the
1-24 event, and the school district recently renamed the Girls'
2-1 Invitational Track Meet in his honor; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Dr. Curry gave generously of his time and talents to
2-3 benefit the Odessa Boys Club and St. Luke's Methodist Church, and
2-4 he also made time in his busy schedule to pursue his favorite
2-5 leisure activities, which included lapidary work, gardening, and
2-6 photography; and
2-7 WHEREAS, A man of great energy and vision, Dr. Dale Curry
2-8 left an indelible mark on the community he was proud to call home,
2-9 and though he is gone from us now, his memory will surely endure in
2-10 the hearts and minds of all who were privileged to know him; now,
2-11 therefore, be it
2-12 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-13 hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Dale Curry and extend sincere
2-14 sympathy to the members of his family: to his beloved wife, Beth
2-15 Harrington Curry; to his sons, Michael and Thomas; to his
2-16 daughters, Janet and Julie; to his seven grandchildren; and to the
2-17 many other friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and,
2-18 be it further
2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-21 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in
2-22 memory of Dr. Dale Curry.
