HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 1, 1997, the members of the Texas Federation

 1-2     of Women's Clubs (TFWC) will celebrate the organization's 100th

 1-3     anniversary, and this historic milestone is indeed worthy of

 1-4     special praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The TFWC is a member of the General Federation of

 1-6     Women's Clubs, the largest and oldest organization of volunteer

 1-7     women in the world, and the group's commitment to service is

 1-8     reflected in the tens of thousands of Texans who have contributed

 1-9     their time and talent to the TFWC's endeavors over the last

1-10     century; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Since its founding in Waco in 1897, the organization

1-12     has grown to include 13,000 members in 500 clubs across the state,

1-13     and through the years their dedicated efforts have improved the

1-14     lives of their neighbors while strengthening their communities in

1-15     countless ways; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Although the scope and breadth of the TFWC's

1-17     projects encompass every area of modern life, its work in the

1-18     fields of education and literacy is particularly notable, and an

1-19     astonishing 85 percent of Texas' libraries were organized by TFWC

1-20     members; the group also maintains an extensive library of books by

1-21     and about Texas women at its headquarters in Austin; and

1-22           WHEREAS, The past and present members of the TFWC are

1-23     characterized by their great generosity of spirit as well as by

1-24     their energetic approach to achieving their objectives, and these

 2-1     two typically Texan traits have found a profound and positive means

 2-2     of expression in the group's work; now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-4     hereby commend the members of the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs

 2-5     on the occasion of the organization's 100th anniversary and extend

 2-6     to them sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in

 2-7     the years to come; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-9     prepared for the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs as an expression

2-10     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
