                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, Among the Lone Star State's most prominent corporate

 1-2     citizens is the Aluminum Company of America, better known as Alcoa,

 1-3     and the ongoing success of the company's facility in Rockdale is

 1-4     indeed worthy of special recognition at this time; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The largest aluminum-producing facility in North

 1-6     America, Alcoa's Rockdale Operations site is the model for similar

 1-7     operations throughout the world; mindful of this responsibility,

 1-8     the management and staff there have made a solid commitment not

 1-9     only to producing the best possible product but also to fulfilling

1-10     their responsibilities as corporate citizens of both the local and

1-11     the global communities; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Originally built in 1952 under emergency conditions

1-13     to aid the Korean War effort, the site has grown to encompass

1-14     thousands of acres in Milam and Lee counties and includes a

1-15     reservoir and power plant; Sandow Mine, the oldest operational area

1-16     of the facility, has been active since 1918, when Butler Brothers

1-17     Ballast Burners first sold stock shares in the Federal Fuel

1-18     Company; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Employing approximately 1,700 Texans from a

1-20     six-county area, Rockdale Operations is a vital and valued

1-21     participant in local civic affairs, and Alcoa's dedication to the

1-22     health and well-being of its workers is mirrored by its concern for

1-23     the environmental integrity of the surrounding region; and

1-24           WHEREAS, While the many dedicated workers at Alcoa's Rockdale

 2-1     Operations look forward to a new century's challenges and triumphs,

 2-2     they can take justifiable pride in their past endeavors as well,

 2-3     and their  many achievements have provided them a firm foundation

 2-4     on which to build a successful future; now, therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-6     hereby congratulate the management and staff of Alcoa's Rockdale

 2-7     Operations for their many contributions to the Lone Star State and

 2-8     its citizens and extend sincere best wishes to them for many more

 2-9     years of continued success; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for display at the Rockdale facility as an expression of

2-12     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
