No. 33 75R1903 SAJ-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The citizens of Midland and Odessa have found that 1-2 working together as neighbors can provide numerous mutual benefits, 1-3 and their example is an inspiration to all Texas communities; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Members of the two city councils and chambers of 1-5 commerce meet regularly to discuss concerns affecting the Permian 1-6 Basin area, and together the communities have sponsored several 1-7 important initiatives that have helped to make the region a better 1-8 place in which to live, work, and rear a family, including the 1-9 Midland/Odessa Transportation Alliance, the Permian Basin Drug Task 1-10 Force, the Permian Basin Food Bank, and the Midland/Odessa Symphony 1-11 & Chorale; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Their cooperative spirit is further evidenced by a 1-13 Friendship Marker erected on State Highway 191 between the two 1-14 communities; moreover, Midland/Odessa has earned the distinction of 1-15 being one of only two pairs of cities in the country to receive a 1-16 joint postmark from the United States Postal Service, and their 1-17 designation as a joint metropolitan statistical area (MSA) has 1-18 helped the communities to become one of the largest MSAs in West 1-19 Texas; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Through their concerted efforts, the citizens of 1-21 Midland and Odessa have forged an alliance that has contributed 1-22 greatly to the economic growth of their region and of the Lone Star 1-23 State, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor these dedicated Texans 1-24 for their exemplary work; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-2 hereby declare February 25, 1997, Midland/Odessa Joint Legislative 2-3 Day and commend the citizens of those communities for their efforts 2-4 to make the area one of Texas' finest regions; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for prominent display in the communities at Midland and 2-7 Odessa as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-8 Representatives and Senate.
