No. 43 75R4283 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Many proud residents of the city of Atlanta, Texas, 1-2 will be in Austin on February 26, 1997, to celebrate Atlanta Day at 1-3 the Capitol; and 1-4 WHEREAS, First incorporated in 1872, Atlanta is now the 1-5 largest city in Cass County and is the hub for the many business 1-6 ventures that call this area home; taking full advantage of the 1-7 area's assets, resources, and convenient locale, the Atlanta 1-8 business community continues to create excellent jobs for its 1-9 citizens; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Atlanta's controlled expansion is characterized by 1-11 the integration of progressive ideas with the traditional values 1-12 that have so long characterized this historic city; the recent 1-13 completion of a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility and 1-14 a new 21,000-square-foot medical clinic provide further proof that 1-15 Atlanta is indeed committed to creating a reliable infrastructure 1-16 on which to build for the future; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The Atlanta Independent School District offers 1-18 families a diversified curriculum that serves students from 1-19 prekindergarten to 12th grade and features standout athletic and 1-20 music programs, as well as career technology classes in 1-21 agriculture, home economics, and microcomputer applications; in 1-22 addition, the district's primary and elementary schools recently 1-23 garnered two of the 12 statewide Spotlight School honors awarded by 1-24 the Texas Education Association as part of the Governor's 2-1 Initiative on Reading; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The piney hills of northeast Texas are home to an 2-3 abundance of beautiful lakes, rivers, and streams, where fishing 2-4 and other water sports are the order of the day; the area's 2-5 hospitable climate and three nearby state parks further increase 2-6 the opportunities to enjoy and experience the great outdoors; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The people of Atlanta are justifiably proud of their 2-8 city, for this unique community and its exceptional citizens have 2-9 played a significant role in Texas' development, and their many 2-10 contributions to the Lone Star State are truly worthy of special 2-11 legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-13 hereby recognize February 26, 1997, as Atlanta Day at the Capitol 2-14 and extend a warm welcome to the fine citizens who have traveled to 2-15 Austin to celebrate this significant event; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for the residents of Atlanta as a commemoration of this 2-18 grand occasion and as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-19 House of Representatives and Senate.
