No. 45 75R903 SAJ-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Edna Seinsheimer Levin on March 13, 1-2 1996, has brought a great loss to the many friends and relatives of 1-3 this esteemed civic leader and philanthropist; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A third-generation Galvestonian, she married Dr. 1-5 William C. Levin in 1941, and her boundless love and support helped 1-6 to sustain their family as her husband pursued his distinguished 1-7 medical career, which included the presidency of The University of 1-8 Texas Medical Branch; and 1-9 WHEREAS, During her tenure as first lady of that institution, 1-10 Mrs. Levin hosted many functions and embarked on projects that 1-11 greatly enhanced the university, and her warm and gracious manner 1-12 and tireless involvement earned her the respect and admiration of 1-13 all who came to know her; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to public health and social 1-15 concerns, she sought solutions to matters vital to the well-being 1-16 of countless area residents as a board member of the Public Health 1-17 Nursing Service, the Junior Welfare of Galveston, the American Red 1-18 Cross, the American Cancer Society, and Temple B'Nai Israel; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Levin was also an ardent supporter of historic 1-20 preservation and the performing arts, and she gave generously of 1-21 her time and talents to benefit The Grand 1894 Opera House and the 1-22 Galveston Historical Foundation's Historic Homes Tour; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Her outstanding service through the years brought 1-24 her well-deserved acclaim, and she was honored as the first 2-1 recipient of the Founders Award given by the Galveston Historical 2-2 Foundation; with her husband, she received the Leonora Kempner 2-3 Thompson Community Enrichment Award and the Mental Health 2-4 Association's Spirit of Giving Award, and more recently, she 2-5 accepted for her family the 1996 People of Vision Award from 2-6 Prevent Blindness Texas; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Edna Levin's remarkable contributions to the quality 2-8 of life in Galveston will continue to have a profound effect on the 2-9 members of that community for generations to come, and her unique 2-10 spirit will surely live on in the hearts and minds of the many 2-11 people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-13 hereby honor the memory of Edna Seinsheimer Levin and extend 2-14 sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her beloved 2-15 husband, Dr. William C. Levin; to her daughters and sons-in-law, 2-16 Gerry Lee and Eugene Hornstein, and Carol Lynn and Armin Cantini; 2-17 to her grandchildren, William Joseph Hornstein and Susan Lee 2-18 Hornstein; to her brother, J. F. Seinsheimer, Jr.; and to her many 2-19 other friends and relatives; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-22 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-23 memory of Edna Seinsheimer Levin.
