HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The members of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church in 1-2 Fort Worth recently celebrated the church's 125th anniversary, and 1-3 this milestone is indeed deserving of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The church was organized in 1871 by the Reverend 1-5 John Collier and 10 charter members, and its congregation met for 1-6 services at members' homes until 1883, when a parishioner, J. W. 1-7 Chapman, deeded land to build the church's first house of worship; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, For many years, Forest Hill Presbyterian Church has 1-10 played a vital role in its community; in addition to holding 1-11 monthly food drives and collecting donations to assist those less 1-12 fortunate in the Fort Worth area, the congregation has participated 1-13 in the Adopt-A-School Pen Pals program with Forest Hill Elementary 1-14 School, to the benefit of all involved with this worthwhile 1-15 project; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The church also sponsors a number of organizations, 1-17 including three scouting troops, the Forest Hill Lions Club, and a 1-18 chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons, and for 1-19 more than a decade, the congregation has been partners in Christ 1-20 with the Thai Presbyterian Fellowship; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Over the course of its rich history, the church has 1-22 benefited greatly from the work of many dedicated ministers, 1-23 including L. C. Collier, who led the congregation for nearly 30 1-24 years before M. U. Conditt embarked on his 19-year tenure in 1936, 2-1 and the church's current pastor, John S. Hare, who began his 2-2 faithful service nine years ago; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Since its founding, Forest Hill Presbyterian Church 2-4 has offered outstanding spiritual leadership and moral guidance to 2-5 the members of its congregation; the church stands today as a 2-6 tribute to the dedication and hard work of its members, past and 2-7 present, who have devoted their time, energy, and resources to 2-8 ensure its continued existence; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-10 hereby honor Forest Hill Presbyterian Church on the occasion of its 2-11 125th anniversary and commend Pastor John S. Hare and the members 2-12 of his congregation for the many significant contributions they 2-13 have made to the betterment of their community; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for Forest Hill Presbyterian Church as an expression of 2-16 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
