                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, Texas military veterans have served their country

 1-2     and Texas with great honor and distinction, calling forth their

 1-3     warrior spirit to risk their lives in the fight to preserve our

 1-4     freedom and democratic ideals; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The almost 2,000,000 veterans living in Texas have

 1-6     earned our commitment to making their peacetime life one of quality

 1-7     and dignity, repaying them for their dedication, patriotism, and

 1-8     bravery; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Texas veterans, many of whom are handicapped or

1-10     older, must often travel long distances and navigate unfamiliar

1-11     roads to access veterans' clinics and hospitals for treatment or to

1-12     pay their respects to friends and family who lay at rest in

1-13     veterans' cemeteries; and

1-14           WHEREAS, These facilities are tangible and lasting memorials

1-15     that show the world our pride and gratitude for our veterans'

1-16     heroism; it is appropriate that they be designated with highway

1-17     directional signs and exit markers to honor Texas veterans for

1-18     their valor and service to our state and nation; now, therefore, be

1-19     it

1-20           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

1-21     hereby request the Texas Department of Transportation to erect and

1-22     properly maintain state highway directional signs and exit markers

1-23     to all federal and state veterans' hospitals, clinics, and

1-24     cemeteries; and, be it further

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official

 2-2     copy of this resolution to the executive director of the Texas

 2-3     Department of Transportation.
