No. 67 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 5, 1997; 1-3 May 6, 1997, read first time and referred to Committee on State 1-4 Affairs; May 16, 1997, reported favorably by the following vote: 1-5 Yeas 13, Nays 0; May 16, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, Texas military veterans have served their country 1-8 and Texas with great honor and distinction, calling forth their 1-9 warrior spirit to risk their lives in the fight to preserve our 1-10 freedom and democratic ideals; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The almost 2,000,000 veterans living in Texas have 1-12 earned our commitment to making their peacetime life one of quality 1-13 and dignity, repaying them for their dedication, patriotism, and 1-14 bravery; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Texas veterans, many of whom are handicapped or 1-16 older, must often travel long distances and navigate unfamiliar 1-17 roads to access veterans' clinics and hospitals for treatment or to 1-18 pay their respects to friends and family who lay at rest in 1-19 veterans' cemeteries; and 1-20 WHEREAS, These facilities are tangible and lasting memorials 1-21 that show the world our pride and gratitude for our veterans' 1-22 heroism; it is appropriate that they be designated with highway 1-23 directional signs and exit markers to honor Texas veterans for 1-24 their valor and service to our state and nation; now, therefore, be 1-25 it 1-26 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-27 hereby request the Texas Department of Transportation to erect and 1-28 properly maintain state highway directional signs and exit markers 1-29 to all federal and state veterans' hospitals, clinics, and 1-30 cemeteries; and, be it further 1-31 RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official 1-32 copy of this resolution to the executive director of the Texas 1-33 Department of Transportation. 1-34 * * * * *
