HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, Rocky Hernandez was chosen Citizen of the Year for

 1-2     1995 by the Oak Hill Business and Professional Association (OHBPA)

 1-3     and this special recognition was indeed well deserved in light of

 1-4     his many significant contributions to his community; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, After spending much of his youth in Kerrville,

 1-6     Mr. Hernandez enrolled at the University of Houston on an athletic

 1-7     scholarship; he played football for the Cougars for four years

 1-8     under legendary coach Bill Yeoman and was graduated with a degree

 1-9     in business administration; and

1-10           WHEREAS, He joined the U.S. Army and served his country with

1-11     distinction for two years as a second lieutenant, earning a Purple

1-12     Heart and Bronze Star "V" for Valor for his meritorious conduct;

1-13     and

1-14           WHEREAS, On ending his military service, Mr. Hernandez took a

1-15     position in the marketing department with Exxon Company USA, where

1-16     for 14 years he was a highly valued and dedicated employee; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Mr. Hernandez later founded his own restaurant

1-18     business in Kerrville; he opened Acapulco Restaurante Y Cantina in

1-19     Oak Hill in 1987, and by applying his considerable business acumen

1-20     built that fine establishment into a thriving enterprise; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Also highly knowledgeable in the field of road

1-22     transportation, he was appointed to the Austin Transportation Study

1-23     Policy Advisory Committee in December 1995, and, in his capacity as

1-24     Government Affairs Committee Chair for OHBPA, he has worked closely

 2-1     with the Texas Department of Transportation on an extension to

 2-2     Highway 290 in the Oak Hill area; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, In addition to his other pursuits, this dynamic

 2-4     individual is a member of the board of directors of Life Savings

 2-5     Bank and the Oak Hill Rotary Club; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, he has been supported

 2-7     in all his many endeavors by his devoted wife, Alexis, and their

 2-8     two children, Nick and Gena; and

 2-9           WHEREAS, Rocky Hernandez has selflessly devoted his

2-10     considerable talents to bettering conditions for residents

2-11     throughout the Oak Hill community, and it is indeed appropriate

2-12     that he receive special legislative recognition for his many

2-13     achievements at this time; now, therefore, be it

2-14           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

2-15     hereby congratulate Rocky Hernandez on being named 1995 Citizen of

2-16     the Year by the Oak Hill Business and Professional Association and

2-17     extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in

2-18     the future; and, be it further

2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-20     prepared for Rocky Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the

2-21     Legislature of the State of Texas.
