HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Maria Lucille Gonzales Calderon on

 1-2     January 27, 1995, at the age of 60, brought great sadness to the

 1-3     family and many friends of this distinguished and caring woman; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Calderon was born May 27, 1934, in Markham,

 1-5     Texas; after graduating from Tide Haven High School in Blessing,

 1-6     she attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Galveston, graduating

 1-7     in 1955 as a registered nurse; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, She married Dr. Fermin Calderon on November 27,

 1-9     1955, and the young couple went on to form a lasting personal and

1-10     professional partnership, establishing a Family Medical Practice

1-11     office in Del Rio that Mrs. Calderon skillfully managed until 1989;

1-12     and

1-13           WHEREAS, This remarkable woman was deeply devoted to her

1-14     church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and she was also

1-15     single-minded in her commitment to her community; Mrs. Calderon

1-16     served most notably as past local and state chair of the American

1-17     G.I.  Forum Ladies Auxiliary, as a board member for the Del Rio

1-18     Housing Authority, and as a proud member of the Elite Social Club

1-19     and the San Felipe Travel Club; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Maria Lucille Calderon was a woman of rare

1-21     determination and compassion who recognized the value of life and

1-22     the need to relish every day of it; although her guidance and

1-23     devotion have been missed by all who knew her, her spirit surely

1-24     lives on in the hearts of the many people whose lives she touched;

 2-1     now, therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-3     hereby honor the memory of Maria Lucille Gonzales Calderon and

 2-4     extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:  to her

 2-5     husband, Dr. Fermin Calderon; to her sons and daughters-in-law,

 2-6     Fermin Calderon, Jr., and his wife Gloria,  Hector Calderon and his

 2-7     wife Amanda, and Albert Calderon and his wife Santa; to her

 2-8     grandchildren, Vanessa Anne Calderon, Leah Lynneah Calderon, Hector

 2-9     Cesar Calderon, Albert Steven Calderon, and Katherine Marie

2-10     Calderon; to her sisters and brothers, Helen Gonzales, Paul

2-11     Gonzales, Albert Gonzales, and Willie Gonzales; and to all the

2-12     relatives and friends of this beloved woman; and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-14     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas

2-15     House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in

2-16     memory of Maria Lucille Calderon.
