HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and family of Felicitas "Ollie" 1-2 Fernandez were deeply saddened by the passing of this beloved woman 1-3 on November 21, 1995, at the age of 69; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Fernandez was born and reared 1-5 in Marfa and married Jesus L. Fernandez on April 1, 1950; the 1-6 couple were blessed with eight children and together opened two 1-7 successful convenience stores in Del Rio, the Fernandez Food Center 1-8 and the Fernandez Corner Stop, that became familiar landmarks in 1-9 the community; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the welfare of others, this 1-11 remarkable woman found time to participate in the local Parent 1-12 Teacher Association and the United Civic Organization Ladies 1-13 Auxiliary, in addition to tending to the needs of her own loving 1-14 family; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Blessed with numerous friends and family, 1-16 Mrs. Fernandez was nurtured by her solid religious faith and was an 1-17 esteemed member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In serving her family, her church, and her 1-19 community, this extraordinary woman gave generously to those around 1-20 her and left them with a legacy of love and compassion by which to 1-21 remember her; although her presence is gone from us now, her spirit 1-22 will live on in the hearts of the many people who were fortunate to 1-23 know her; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby pay tribute to the life of Felicitas "Ollie" Fernandez and 2-2 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-3 husband, Jesus L. Fernandez; to her children and their spouses, 2-4 Stephen Hector and Laura Fernandez, Jesse and Linda Fernandez, 2-5 Norma Lisa and Mark Chavira, Mary Gloria and J. J. Arizpe, Carmen 2-6 and Edwardo Ortega, James Fernandez, Ralph Anthony Fernandez, and 2-7 Donald Edward Fernandez; to her brothers, Chris Carmona, Rafael 2-8 Carmona, Conrado Carmona, Leo Carmona, and Jose Luz Carmona; to her 2-9 20 grandchildren; to her nieces and nephews; and to her many other 2-10 relatives and friends; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-13 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-14 memory of Felicitas "Ollie" Fernandez.
